This painting is from a backpacking trip I took with my Dad to the Grand Canyon. These trips are special as it gives us long, unstructured hours to talk and connect more deeply than we would over phone calls. I’m lucky to have a dad who will go on adventures like this with me!

This particular morning was a little hazy. As we packed up camp, the sun filtered through, each layer of the canyon stood out as a silhouette of a different value. The long shadows and early light reflecting off the Colorado only added to the drama.
